The focus of this exhibition is on the various types of portraits of the Roman emperors and their families on Roman empires over 500 years from the late republic to the end of the western empire.
For the government of the Roman Empire, coins were an important, perhaps the most important means of communication with the people, especially the military and the Roman citizens. Portraits on coins reflect the balance of power in the empire to this day and still let us see how the emperor wanted to be seen, what image he shaped" himself and his family.
The second edition has been expanded to include photos of 623 coin backs.
